Local favorite and Boogie on the Bricks veterans The Royales, will finish off this year’s Boogie on the Bricks concert this Saturday at 9 p.m.
Boogie on the Bricks is an event that Ric Wasserman, a member of the organizing committee of Boogie on the Bricks, said is going into its sixth year on Saturday. Held on Court St. the event starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m.
Based out of Athens, The Royales, started in 1995 according to the band’s website and have been playing local venues in Athens and Columbus since. Those who read and contribute to the Athens NEWS Readers’ Poll named The Royales the 2010 Best Local Band or Performer. Their victory marked the sixth year in a row the band has won the category.
According to the band’s website their music is “high-energy R&B, rock and funk that’s best enjoyed from a dancing position.”
Musician Devon Zimmerman said he saw The Royales when they played Boogie on the Bricks in 2006 and described the band as “electric.”
“They are great,” he said. “The way they perform and the music that they play is really fun to listen to.”
Ohio University student Kerry Conway said she has seen the band at Jackie O’s before and they were “awesome” and “great to watch.”
