A decidedly non-’Net related accomplishment

I could go on about how hospitals are in dire need of the Webwebbed toes to simplify such things as medical records (Why does the anesthesiologist have to spend 10 minutes asking women who are obviously in a great deal of pain whether they’ve ever had Hepatitis? Isn’t that in the file?) I could warn my class that I’m going to make them watch the episode of Sports Jobs with Junior Seau where the former NFL great learns to be a sports reporter. (Hey, that’s all that was on in the delivery room!) But I’ll get to the important stuff instead.

Greta Elisabeth Meyer joined my family Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at about 8:30 p.m. She was nine days early and gave Mom her toughest labor yet, but she’s happy and healthy and shaping up to be a fiery red head. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and I’m guessing was about 19 1/2 inches long. The nurses dubbed her the next great swimming sensation thanks to her long fingers and webbed second and third toes on both feet. (No, I am not making this up. It sounds freaky, but I think it’s sort of cute.)

I’m taking the day off classes tomorrow, but I’m be back to boring you with journalistic rants on Wednesday. For now, give Greta a warm Web welcome to the world. And if you happen to misspell her name as “great” as many times as I have caught in this post, let me know because I’m sure it’s a sign.

This is turning out to be some kind of birth month for Mizzou PhDs – I think Elizabeth is due soon too! Congratulations in all ways to you. Be sure not to get too close to the door with her – those security bracelets are set on a hair trigger.

    Congratualtions!

Greta Meyer sounds like an excellent name for a future CNN host. With the arrival Greta and the soon-to-be-hatched Frith baby, Scripps is going to be baby-crazy this quarter!
