Hans K. Meyer started Hans K. Meyeras an assistant professor at Ohio University in August of 2009. He received his Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Missouri that same year. His dissertation focused on the effects of using user-generated content on a traditional news organization Web site. What he found is the way news organizations present contributions from their audience matters. Adding unedited audience content increases the connection experimental participants had to the site, while increasing the credibility they attached to the organization behind the site. Heavily editing the content under the guise of collaborative journalism actually decreased both organizational credibility and audience connection in the study.
